Mech Build Introduction
By: GhengisDhon
So, you want to build a Mech? Most of the Mechs you see on this site are one-of-a-kind creations. The creators of these Mechs have spent hundreds (or more) of hours designing, building, coding, and testing these walking combat robots. There are no ready-to-build kits available that do everything needed to compete in Mech Warfare.
We often get asked on where to start if someone wants to build one. The Trossen Mech Warfare Forums are a good place to start. There's a lot of information there if you spend the time going through the all the posts. You can also post questions there and gets answers from multiple Mech builders throughout the US or even world.
However, in an effort to consolidate much of the information, here we will walk you through the build of a Mech based on one of our club Mechs, “99”.

Mech “99”. This is a simple but effective Mech. It has placed in many past Mech Warfare events and shares many common features with the rest of our club Mechs.
To build it you will need Dynamixel AX-12A actuators, an AEG Airsoft gearbox and Airsoft barrel, FPV camera equipment, access to a 3D printer, a laser cutter or skills to manually make the the body plates, and a moderate level of skill with electronics, soldering, and programming. Its not the goal of this site to teach you these skills but there are plenty of other resources on the web to learn these skills.
We often get enthusiastic new members that want to build a Mech that jumps, flies, climbs walls, is bipedal, autonomous, etc.. Its difficult enough to get a quad Mech up and operating. Start simple, get a working Mech, and you can build on that later.
